Description
The National Sleep Foundation’s 2005 survey on American adults’ sleeping habits showed that 51% of people only get a good night’s sleep a few times per week. Thirty-nine percent of people take at least 30 minutes to fall asleep, and 62% experience daytime sleepiness at least three days a week.
Many experts believe that healthy sleep habits are essential for overall physical and mental health. So do we. This is why we created Top Secret Nutrition Sleep with PharmaGABA™. To understand how we designed this sleep supplement, it helps to understand a bit about brain waves.
BRAIN WAVES
Your brain cycles through four types of waves referred to as Delta, Theta, Alpha, and Beta.
PharmaGABA
If you are in a dominant Beta wave mode, chances are you might have issues falling asleep. We believe that if you are in a dominant Alpha wave mode, you are much more likely to fall asleep. That’s why we have included PharmaGABA™ in TSN sleep. PharmaGABA™ is a natural form of GABA manufactured by a fermentation process using a Lactobacillus bacteria – the same kind of bacteria used to ferment vegetables, cheese, wine, and other traditional diets. Research suggests that PharmaGABA™ can support Alpha waves, help decrease Beta waves, and have a relaxing effect.*1
Melatonin
Melatonin is a hormone made by the pineal gland, a small gland in the brain. Melatonin helps control your sleep and wake cycles. Very small amounts of it are found in foods such as meats, grains, fruits, and vegetables. Research suggests that melatonin increases the speed of falling asleep, affects the sleep cycle, and supports the quality of sleep.*2,3,4
5-HTP
5-Hydroxytryptophan is a naturally occurring amino acid and metabolic intermediate in the biosynthesis of the neurotransmitters serotonin and melatonin from tryptophan. 5-HTP is used for its indirect effects, rather than its direct effects. 5-HTP, an aromatic amino acid naturally produced by the body from the essential amino acid L-tryptophan (LT) is a precursor to serotonin and melatonin.5 It is produced commercially by extraction from the seeds of the African plant Griffonia simplicifolia and has been used for over 30 years. The efficacy of 5-HTP is due to its ability to promote production of serotonin in the brain.* Research has suggested that oral administration of 5-HTP may assist with occasional sleeplessness.*6
In summary, the PharmaGABA™ in TSN Sleep helps promote the brain waves that make it easier for sleep to happen, and the melatonin and 5-HTP help the process along.
We have also included goji berry extract, a powerful antioxidant that helps fight free radicals while you sleep. According to the USDA Database for the Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) of Selected Foods, goji has a high ORAC value.7
